Seattle Group Sending Out An S.O.S. Save Our Sonics
Posted by Jeff Sack under Main
The Associated Press is reporting that a group of Seattle’s wealthiest businessmen have formed a consortium with the purpose of keeping the NBA in Seattle. Seattle SuperSonics owner Clay Bennett has started plans to move the team from the Northwest to Oklahoma City. According to the report, developer Matt Griffin has formed a group with three partners in order to keep the NBA in the Emerald City. The other partners are Microsoft Corp. chief executive Steve Ballmer, the President and CEO of Costco Jim Sinegal, and John Stanton, who is prominent in the wireless industry. The report says that the group would spend 150 million dollars in order to renovate the Key Center, if they were granted the rights to purchase the Sonics, or another franchise for the city. The group hopes to meet with the NBA Board of Governors in April when they convene to discuss the moving of the Sonics to Oklahoma City.
