It is agreed and common knowledge that the Golden State Warriors’ strong suit isn’t defense; against the Orlando Magic Saturday night, the Warriors for at least one night dispelled that rumor. Baron Davis and Stephen Jackson combined for 53 points, leading the Warriors to a 104-95 win over the Magic at Amway Arena.
What hurt Orlando was the fact that they turned the ball over 20 times. of which Golden State stole the ball 14 times - very un-Warrior-like numbers.? The Magic hit their first four 3-pointers and 5 of 6 in the first quarter to take a 12-point lead; however, the Warriors reduced their deficit to 55-47 by halftime.? While Golden State shot a weak 35% from the floor in the first half, they recovered immensely as Davis and Jackson combined for 24 of the team’s 33 points in the ever-important third quarter.
Jackson scored 14 in the period; his dunk capped an 18-4 run that erased a 60-51 deficit and giving the Warriors a 69-64 lead?with 3:43 left in the quarter; Golden State would stretch their lead to as many as 11 before going into the fourth quarter with a 80-71 advantage.? The Magic’s Keyon Dooling made a jumper with 9:36 to play, pulling Orlando to within 7, but Golden State’s Al Harrington dunked and Davis made a jumper to put the Warriors’ lead back to double-digits and the Magic couldn’t recover.
Golden State’s leading scorer was Davis with 33 points, 9 rebounds, 3 assists, 2 steals and 2 blocked shots, while Jackson scored 20 - including 3 treys - with 9 rebounds, 3 assists and a steal.? Monta Ellis added 16 with 5 rebounds, 3 assists and 4 steals, while Harrington chipped in with 14 with 4 rebounds, 4 assists and a steal.
Orlando was led by Dwight Howard with 26 points, 12 rebounds, an assist and 5 blocked shots, while Hedo Turkoglu scored 23 with 5 rebounds, 4 assists, 2 steals but 7 turnovers.? Rashard Lewis added 21 - including three 3-pointers - with 8 rebounds, 3 assists and a blocked shot.? Golden State (39-23) now flies to Canada to face the Toronto Raptors Wednesday, while Orlando (40-24) makes the short trip to Atlanta to take on the Hawks on Monday.
