Nash, Amare, & Shaq’s Double-Doubles Lead Suns To Stop Spurs 94-87

Shaquille O’Neal, ?Amare Stoudemire, and?Steve Nash, each recorded double-doubles, and the Phoenix Suns had six players score in double figures Sunday as they defeated defending NBA Champions the San Antonio Spurs 94-87 Sunday. The loss was the second in a row for San Antonio after an 11 game winning streak came to an end. Phoenix had to stage a second half comeback for the win, the Suns are now 4-6 since O’Neal has been in the lineup.
The Spurs took the early lead as they were ahead at the end of the first quarter 25-22. The two teams played to a draw in the second quarter, hence the Spurs still held a 3 point advantage, when the contest reached the half, with San Antonio leading 48-45. Nash tied the game at 52-52 with 8:57 remaining in the third quarter, as he hit a 14 foot outside shot, and then hit the penalty shot at the line as he was fouled by Spurs forward Bruce Bowen on the play. Phoenix then took the lead at 53-52 when Amare Stoudemire went one of two at the charity stripe, but Tim Duncan got lead back quickly for the Spurs with a two point shot. Shaq put the Suns back on top at 55-54 and they would stay on top until? Tony?Parker tied?the game at 67-67 with an outside shot and 36 seconds left in the period. With 20 second left in the period, Boris Diaw hit a bucket to put Phoenix ahead 69-67, but Bowen hit a trey at the buzzer to give San Antonio a 70-69 lead at the end of the quarter. The Spurs were up 85-80 with 3;46 left in the game, when Phoenix took their game to the next gear, they tied the game at 85-85 as Stoudemire hit a 9 foot “J” with 2:58 left to play. The Suns closed the quarter on a 9-2 run to take the win.
Steve Nash scored 19 points, 14 assists, and 5 rebounds, in the win for Phoenix.? Grant Hill scored 18 points, 6 rebounds, 1 assist, 1 block, Amare Stoudemire, scored 16 points, 11 rebounds, 3 blocks, 3 assists, 1 steal, Shaq scored?14 points, grabbed 16 boards, 2 blocks, 1 assist, in probably his best all around game in a Suns uniform. And this was the team that was the reason that Phoenix G.M. Steve Kerr brought him to Phoenix?for, to beat the Spurs in the Post Season. Kerr?will probably get his best night’s sleep in a month Sunday night.?Raja Bell scored 11 points, 5 rebounds, 2 steals, 1 assist. Leandro Barbosa scored 10 points, 4 rebounds.
San Antonio was led by Manu Ginobili who is back coming off the bench again as he scored a game high?22 points, 6 rebounds, 2 steals, 1 block. Tony Parker scored 21 points, 5 assists, 2 rebounds, Tim Duncan recorded a double-double, as he scored 17 points, 10 boards, 2 blocks, 2 steals, 1 assist. Kurt Thomas scored 11 points, 7 rebounds, in the loss. Phoenix with the win improves to 41-22, the Spurs are now 43-19.
