Dallas Mavericks coach Avery Johnson, left rear, claps as Dirk Nowitzki (#41) celebrates scoring a long two-point basket in the second half of their game against the New Jersey Nets, played Saturday night. Dallas defeated New Jersey 111-91.

?Dallas Mavericks forward Dirk Nowitzki accomplished two things in Saturday’s game against the New Jersey Nets: he broke the franchise scoring record (16,644), eclipsing the record formerly held by former Maverick guard Rolando Blackman and he also led the Mavericks to an easy 111-91 win over the Nets at American Airlines Center.

The game was much in Dallas’ control from beginning to end, despite the Mavs’ starters going 1-for-10 in the first quarter; Dallas coach Avery Johnson emptied his bench in the first quarter and began the second quarter with reserves exclusively.? Once the starters had returned, the Mavericks built an 18-point lead at halftime and maintained at least a 12-point lead the rest of the game.

Dallas’ leading scorer was the aforementioned Nowitzki with 34 points, 9 rebounds, 2 assists and a steal, while Jerry Stackhouse scored 20 with 4 rebounds, 3 assists and 2 blocked shots; Brendon Bass pitched in with 19 with 7 rebounds and a steal.? Dallas (40-23) now flies to New York to take on the Knicks Monday, while New Jersey (26-37) traveks south to Houston to take on the Rockets - also on Monday.?

?????? Golden State Warriors guard Baron Davis, left, is fouled by Orlando Magic forward Hedo Turkoglu while driving to the basket during the second half of their game, played Saturday night. Davis scored 33 points as Golden State defeated Orlando 104-95.?

It is agreed and common knowledge that the Golden State Warriors’ strong suit isn’t defense; against the Orlando Magic Saturday night, the Warriors for at least one night dispelled that rumor. Baron Davis and Stephen Jackson combined for 53 points, leading the Warriors to a 104-95 win over the Magic at Amway Arena.

What hurt Orlando was the fact that they turned the ball over 20 times. of which Golden State stole the ball 14 times - very un-Warrior-like numbers.? The Magic hit their first four 3-pointers and 5 of 6 in the first quarter to take a 12-point lead; however, the Warriors reduced their deficit to 55-47 by halftime.? While Golden State shot a weak 35% from the floor in the first half, they recovered immensely as Davis and Jackson combined for 24 of the team’s 33 points in the ever-important third quarter.

Jackson scored 14 in the period; his dunk capped an 18-4 run that erased a 60-51 deficit and giving the Warriors a 69-64 lead?with 3:43 left in the quarter; Golden State would stretch their lead to as many as 11 before going into the fourth quarter with a 80-71 advantage.? The Magic’s Keyon Dooling made a jumper with 9:36 to play, pulling Orlando to within 7, but Golden State’s Al Harrington dunked and Davis made a jumper to put the Warriors’ lead back to double-digits and the Magic couldn’t recover.

Golden State’s leading scorer was Davis with 33 points, 9 rebounds, 3 assists, 2 steals and 2 blocked shots, while Jackson scored 20 - including 3 treys - with 9 rebounds, 3 assists and a steal.? Well that theory would have held more validity in this contest if you were talking about the last two minutes of the first quarter, because for all intent and purpose this game ended then. Boston led at the end of the period, 37-20, and Memphis never proved to be a challenge the rest of the game.?The Celtics?basically took the second quarter off, scoring only 14 points, and they still led at the half 51-37!
