In what was arguably the best game on Monday’s NBA schedule, the San Antonio Spurs and Denver Nuggets played a nip-and-tuck kind of game until the very end; fortunately for the Spurs, they have Tim Duncan.? Duncan scored 23 points, leading the Spurs to the narrow victory over the Nuggets 107-103 at AT&T Center.
Allen Iverson, who has a?non-displaced fracture in the tip of his right ring finger, played like a healthy Allen Iverson; he hit consecutive 3-pointers for the Nuggets late in the first half, giving Denver a 58-55 halftime lead.? San Antonio’s Matt Bonner drained a 3, making it 80-77 with 1:37 to go in the third quarter; the Nuggets led by as many as 7 in the period before the Spurs went on a 16-5 run to close the quarter and enter the fourth quarter with a period to go.
The fourth quarter would get interesting as the lead was exchanged 6 times; Denver’s J.R. Smith made a difficult reverse layup to break an 88-88 tie with 7:25 left, and Edurado Najera’s dunk put the Nuggets up 92-89.? Denver’s Kenyon Martin tied the game at 100 with 2:!8 to go in the game before the Spurs took over for good; Duncan hit a pair of free throws and recently acquired Kurt Thomas made a crucial basket to make it 104-100, iving the game for San Antonio.
San Antonio had 6 players in double-digits, led by Duncan with 23 points, with 18 rebounds, 5 assists and 3 blocked shots, while Tony Parker scored 16 with 2 rebounds and 4 assists; Manu Ginobili and Thomas added 13 each - with Ginobili grabbing 3 rebounds, dishing out 14 assists with 2 steals, while Thomas grabbed 2 rebounds witha steal.? Denver was led by Iverson with 28 points - including a trio of 3-pointers - with 5 rebounds, 4 assists, a steal and a blocked shot, while Smith, from off the bench, scored 22 with 6 rebounds, an assist, a steal and a blocked shot.? Carmelo Anthony added 18 with 7 rebounds and 4 assists, while Martin chipped in with 16?along with 5 rebopunds, 2 steals and a blocked shot.? Marcus Camby grabbed 14 rebounds.?
