Celtics Slam Sonics 111-82 For Tenth Straight Win
Posted by Jeff Sack under Main
Kevin Garnett and Ray Allen each scored 18 points, Paul Pierce recorded a double-double, and the Boston Celtics shot 50.6% (45-89) from the floor for the game, as they easily defeated the Seattle SuperSonics Wednesday night 111-82. The win was Boston’s tenth straight victory, after coming back from the All-Star break 0-3.
Seattle has some nice players. First round picks from the 2007 NBA Draft Kevin Durant, and Jeff Green are already corner stones of their starting lineup. Although Chris Wilcox did not have a good game against Boston, he is a keeper, and their point guard Earl Watson is certainly more than serviceable. But they are not a team, no more now after 65 games than they were after one. And until the whole is at least equal to the separate parts, they will not win.
This game was over at the half, and that’s being generous. Boston broke out in the first quarter to a ten point lead, as they were up 34-24 at the end of the first quarter. The lead was up to 20 by the half as the Green Team went ahead 64-44, as the two teams went to their respective locker rooms. The Celtics removed any remaining doubt at the end of the third quarter as they led 92-60. The fourth quarter was extended garbage time.
Kevin Garnett scored 18 points, 6 rebounds, 1 assist, 1 steal, playing just 23 minutes,?Ray Allen scored 18 points, 3 assists, 2 rebounds, 1 steal, 1 block, playing just 25 minutes. Paul Pierce scored 14 points, dished off 11 assists, 5 rebounds, 2 steals, 1 block, Eddie House came off the bench and scored 11 points, 5 assists, 4 rebounds, 2 steals. James Posey also came up big off of the pine as he scored 10 points, 5 rebounds, 4 assists, 1 block.
Kevin Durant led the way for the Sonics as he scored 16 points, 3 rebounds, 3 blocks, 1 assist in the loss for Seattle. Center?Johan Petro recorded a double-double as he scored 12 points, grabbed 10 boards, 1 block, Earl Watson scored 11 points, 7 assists, 3 rebounds. Boston is now an Association best 51-12, the Sonics are 16-49.
