New York Knicks center Eddy Curry

The New York Knicks will be wtihout their starting center for the rest of the NBA season as according to the Associated Press, Eddy Curry will undergo arthroscopic surgery on his right knee to remove a piece of torn cartilage; the procedure will take place next week and recovery time should be around 4 to 6 weeks, effectively ending his season.

Oddly enough, the underachieving Curry was actually playing well during a recent 3-game stretch, averaging 20.7 PPG, when he was injured March 7 against Detroit.  He finished the game, but the knee began to swell the next day and missed 3 games as a result; Curry was hoping that the knee would respond to treatment so he could delay surgery until the off-season and avoid prematurely ending his season.  With Curry’s absence, the Knicks will have to rely on Jerome James, and possibly Randolph Morris, the rookie from Kentucky.
