ESPN “Black Magic” Explores The History Of Basketball
Posted by Jeff Sack under Main
Imagine living in a country, where white men and black men playing a game of basketball together on the same court, could result in their arrest. Well, it happened right here in the USA and not all that long ago 64 years, 1944 to be exact. The ESPN documentary “Black Magic” which airs in two parts on Sunday and Monday nights at 9:00 p.m. EST/PST 8:00 p.m. Central delves into that and so much more as it explores Black Universities in America. Just as in baseball there was a color line in basketball and these universities were the equivalent of the old “Negro Leagues” in baseball. The special explores the racial indignities that these brave men withstood for their love of the game, and the separate, but very?few times equal treatment that these men received. NBA Legends such as Earl “The Pearl” Monroe, who back in the day was called “Black?Jesus“, Willis Reed, Bob Love, Dick Barnett, and many others careers are explored, and their stories are told. If you are as much into the history of basketball as I am, or just want to hear some great stories, I suggest you watch this. My DVR has been set for days.

Will the program be placed on DVD for purchase? I would love to have this in my communication library for showing during the off season or when I am bored with the reruns on TV. All work stopped on Sunday when this program was on. This was a delight.
