When you think Detroit Pistons,? you think of Rip, Chauncey, Rasheed, Tayshaun, and McDyess. The name Jarvis Hayes does not normally spring to the front of your mind. Well on Sunday the former Washington Wizards small forward was the?center of attention at the Palace at Auburn Hills, as Hayes came off the bench and shot a career high 7-8 from outside the arc, the Pistons shot 52.7% (39-74) from the floor for the game, and a solar hot 63.6% (14-21) from outside the arc as they just out and out kicked the New Orleans Hornets behinds Sunday afternoon on national television 105-84. Detroit has now won four of it’s last five games, while it was just the second loss in the last seven games for the Hornets. New Orleans was without forward David West Sunday as he sprained his ankle Friday night when the Hornets beat the L.A. Lakers.

New Orleans had the better first quarter as they came out looking hungry and aggressive and took a 26-21 lead at the end of the quarter. When the second quarter started it was like there was a different team out there, they looked the same physically, but they looked totally out of sync on the court. Just as the Hornets were floundering Mr. Hayes started going ballistic, as he scored 19 points, in just 10 minutes! When the smoke cleared Detroit was on top at the end of the first half 55-44. Essentially that is where the game ended, the closet New Orleans got in the third was down by 7 points at 71-64 after Chris Paul hit a 28 foot trey with 1:57 left in the quarter. Detroit was ahead at the end of the period, 77-66. The fourth period was nothing more than extended garbage time.

Jarvis Hayes shot 10-13 from the floor, 7-8 from outside the arc, and went 2-2 at the line for his 29 points, 4 rebounds, 1 assist, 1 steal. Chauncey Billups scored 17 points, 5 assists, 2 steals, 1 rebound, Tayshaun Prince score 13 points, 4 assists, 2 rebounds. Rasheed Wallace scored 10 points, 4 rebounds, 3 assists, 1 steal, 1 block, in the Detroit victory.

Peja Stojakovic was the lead for New Orleans as he scored 21 points, 9 boards, in the Hornets loss. Melvin Ely scored 15 points, 5 rebounds, Chris Paul more reliable than the U.S. Mail, he always delivers. Sunday was no exception as he recorded a double-double 14 points, 14 assists, 4 rebounds, 1 steal, another nice game off the bench for Julian Wright who scored 10 points, 5 rebounds, 4 steals, 1 assist. Detroit with the win improves to 48-18 while New Orleans is now 44-21.
