The Phoenix Suns are getting hot at the right time as they tend to do - which is key, especially this season as the Western Conference race for playoff spots is as wide open as the stock market.? Tuesday night against the Portland Trail Blazers, six Suns’ players scored in double-digits, while shooting 55% from the floor, leading Phoenix to a 111-98 victory over Portland at Rose Garden.
Fast forwarding to the second quarter, Portland’s LaMarcus Aldridge converted a 3-point play to reduce the Suns’ lead to 49-45 in the period; but Phoenix would go on a mini 8-0 run and Leandro Barbosa?drained a 3-pointer to make it 57-45.? The Suns went into halftime leading 57-49.? Portland would get as close as 77-73 in the third quarter, but the Suns’ Gordon Giricek and Steve Nash hit key treys; Nash would also find Boris Diaw low in the paint for a layup then would hit a runner, giving Phoenix a double-digit lead that they would not relinquish for the balance of the contest.
Phoenix’s high scorer was Amare Stoudemire with 25 points, 7 rebounds, 2 assists, a steal and 2 blocked shots, while Nash scored 22 with?8 assists; Shaquille O’Neal recorded a double-double, adding 16 with 15 rebounds, 5 assists, 2 steals and 3blocked shots.? Portland was led by Aldridge with 31 points and 8 rebounds, while Travis Outlaw, from off the bench, scored 13 with 2 rebounds and 2 assists,? Phoenix (45-22), in the midst of a 5-game winning streak, hope to continue that luck as they make the short trip to Seattle to face the SuperSonics Wednesday; Portland (35-33) flies south to Los Angeles to take on the Clippers on Friday.
