Posted by Jeff Sack under Main
Now this is when I wished I had paid more attention in physics class! What does exactly happen when an irresistible force meets an immovable object? Well Wednesday night it resulted in the end of a historic ride for the Houston Rockets, and victory number 54 for the Boston Celtics as they ended the Rockets 22 game winning streak with a 94-74 drubbing at the Toyota Center. The “Big Ticket” Kevin Garnett paced the Green Team with a double-double, while the man who was the engine of the Rockets victory machine Tracy McGrady finally showed Wednesday night he is mortal after all.
The first quarter was a knock out, drag down, toe to toe affair which left Houston standing on top at the end of the period 22-21. Houston went ahead 32-25 made a 20 foot outside shot with 9:36 left in the second quarter, but Boston came back strong as the two teams were deadlocked 40-40 when they went to their respective locker rooms at the half. Garnett put Boston on top with the first basket of the third, and the Celtics were off and running. By the end of the quarter Boston was comfortably ahead to stay 72-56. Houston put up no struggle in the fourth quarter.
KG scored 22 points, grabbed 11 boards, 3 assists, 3 steals, in the Boston victory. ?Leon Powe came up huge off the bench scoring 21 points, 4 rebounds, 1 steal,?Paul Pierce scored 20 points, 5 assists, 4 rebounds, 3 steals. Ray Allen missed his second straight game due to injury.
Houston who saw their historic 22 winning streak, second longest in NBA history looked tired. None more so than guard Tracy McGrady who may have had his worst game of the season? with just 8 points, 8 assists, 7 rebounds. Luis Scola led the Rockets as he scored 15 points, 8 boards, 1 steal, Rafer Alston scored 12 points, 2 steals, 1 block, 1 assist, 1 rebound.? Mike Harris scored 12 points, off the bench 6 rebounds, 2 blocks, 1 steal, Aaron Brooks also came off the pine and scored 10 points, in the loss. Boston is now 54-13, Houston is 46-21.
