Fans at the Pepsi Center in Denver on Thursday got to see an entertaining well fought first half of basketball between #4 seed the Washington State Cougars, and the # 13 seed Winthrop Eagles. After battling each other toe to to toe they went to their respective locker rooms at the half deadlocked at 29-29. Apparently the Cougars made some adjustments during their locker room session, and the Eagles did not respond well to it. Washington State just turned the game into a rout in the second half as they outscored Winthrop 42-11 and ended up with a lopsided 71-40 win in their first round game of the NCAA East Regionals. Cougars center Aaron Baynes went a perfect 9-9 from the field for the game ending up with a game high 19 points, and 8 boards. Winthrop was led by forward Taj McCullough who scored 17 points, 8 boards, 2 assists. Washington State will take on the winners of the game between Notre Dame and George Mason in the second round.
