Lakers’ Bynum May Return Sooner Than Planned

So much for the 12-week timetable that Los Angeles Lakers coach Phil Jackson had suggested for the return of center Andrew Bynum; on the contrary, as reported by Mike Bresnahan of te Los Angeles Times, Jackson retracted that timetable and is now hinting that Bynum may return as early as two weeks from Sunday - well before the playoffs, as Jackson had previously suggested.

Jackson’s reasoning behind the retraction?? According to Jackson, he told the Times, “I threw that out there [Tuesday] to kind of take everything off the table.? We’re [now] saying it was three weeks as of [last] Sunday.? It would give him a week — four games, three games.”? The Lakers could use a healthy Bynum as soon as possible as the team is in a dogfight with several Western Conference teams for the top spot in the playoff standings; currently, Los Angeles is tied with the New Orleans Hornets for the top spot.
