Cliches become cliches for a reason, they are true. ?Like this old chestnut “To be the best you have to beat the best.”? For what seemed like an eternity in the NBA?Central Division that title was held by the Detroit Pistons, until last spring. That’s when they’re pesky younger brothers the Cleveland Cavaliers beat them in the Eastern Conference Finals.? Even though Detroit leads the Central this year, with the second best record in the Association, it still sticks in their craw that they lost to Cleveland last year. Wednesday night just made the wound feel a lot more fresh as they lost to the Cavaliers 89-73.
Tuesday night Detroit could not miss a shot as they defeated the Denver Nuggets 136-120. Wednesday night after the first quarter the Pistons could not make a shot. Detroit came out strong in the first quarter, as they took a 25-22 lead at the end of the period. And then the well ran dry, Cleveland took a 45-38 lead as the game reached the half. Neither team could find the basket in the third quarter as the Cavaliers had a 63-57 advantage as the period came to a close. However Cleveland woke up, in the final period while Detroit stayed in their offensive coma, as the Cavaliers outscored the Pistons 26-16 in the final 12 minutes of play.
LeBron James led all scorers with 30 points, he had 7 rebounds, 6 assists, 1 steal, 1 block, in the Cleveland victory. Zydrunas Ilgauskas scored 20 points, 8 boards, 1 assist, 1 steal, 1 block. Wally Szczerbiak scored 10 points coming off the bench, 4 rebounds.
Rasheed Wallace led Detroit with 16 points, 6 rebounds, 3 blocks.? Richard Hamilton scored 14 points, 7 assists, 4 rebounds, Tayshaun Prince scored 14 points, 4 assists, 4 rebounds, 2 steals, 1 block.? Chauncey Billups scored 10 points, 5 rebounds, 4 assists, 1 steal.? Cleveland is now 39-30, while Detroit is now 49-19.
