Godbold’s 25 Helps Oklahoma Hold Off St. Joseph’s 72-64

An unlikely hero emerged for the #6 Oklahoma Sooners Friday in their matchup against #11 St. Joseph – David Godbold.? Godbold, who averaged just 6.9 PPG during the season, scored a career-high 25 points while the Sooners held off a late rally, enabling Oklahoma to nab the win at the NCAA East regional, 72-64, at BJCC Arena in Birmingham, AL.? Oklahoma was led by the aforementioned Godbold with 25 points with 2 rebounds, 2 assists, 2 steals and a blocked shot while Longar Longar (That’s his real name, folks – not a typo) scored 14 with 5 rebounds and an assist; Blake Griffin added 12 with 4 rebounds, 4 assists, a steal and a blocked shot.? St. Joseph’s was led by Rob Ferguson with 21 points and 4 rebounds while Ahmad Nivins scored 14 with 5 rebounds, an assist and a steal.? Oklahoma advances to the second round when they face the winner of the Louisville-Boise State game Sunday at BJCC Arena.
