Report: Walsh Likely To Stay In Indiana

Indiana Pacers' Donnie Walsh and Larry Bird

It appears that Indiana Pacers CEO Donnie Walsh will remain in Indianapolis for the foreseeable future, according to ESPN.com and verified by a published report; a “source” familiar with the Walsh situation has?told the New York Daily News, “Barring something crazy happening, Donnie is staying.? The players all got a sense on Friday that Donnie would be around.”?

A key holdup in any deal would be the status of current Pacers president Larry Bird; what is certain at this point is that Walsh met with the Pacers’ owners, Herbert and Mel Simon for 8 hours on Friday, according to the Daily News, and that Bird would have to relinquish his daily responsibilities of running the team to Walsh.? At the very least, if what has been reported is true, then Walsh’s situation is becoming more transparent, while Bird’s situation is very up in the air.? I wouldn’t be surprised if Bird is shown the door.
