The NBA announced Monday that Boston Celtics forward Kevin Garnett was named the NBA Eastern Conference Player Of The Week. New Orleans Hornets point guard Chris Paul received the honor for the Western Conference. The award was given out for games played between Monday March 17, through Sunday March 23. The “Big Ticket” helped the Celtics go 3-1 during the week, including being the first team to beat all three Texas teams on the same roadtrip, since the Sacramento Kings accomplished the feat in 2001. Garnett averaged 20.5 points, 11.0 rebounds, and 2.0 steals, during the week. His personal best during the week was during Boston’s victory over the Houston Rockets stopping their 22 game winning streak. Garnett scored 22 points, grabbed 11 boards, and had 3 steals in the game.

Paul, in this observer’s opinion the best young point guard in the Association (Deron Williams close behind at number two) led the Hornets to a 3-0 mark during the week. Paul averaged 25.7 points, 10.0 assists, and 3.0 steals, per game during the week. His high water mark on a personal basis was in the win over the Chicago Bulls, when he scored 37 points, 13 assists, and 4 steals.
