Fourth Quarter Surge Helps Sixers Sin Celtics 95-90
Posted by Jeff Sack under Main
The Philadelphia 76ers trailed the Boston Celtics in the fourth quarter of their game Monday night 78-68 after Celtics reserve guard Eddie House hit a 25 foot trey, with 10:40 left in the game. Well the Sixers must have eaten some spinach, because they went on a 20-2 run, and when the smoke cleared Philadelphia was ahead 88-80, after Andre Iguodala hit an outside shot with 2:17 left in the contest. Iguodala woulds score 10 straight points in the quarter. ?Philadelphia went on to defeat Boston by a final score of 95-90, with the win the Sixers are now in the sixth seed spot and now have an above .500 record.
There are times late in the season when a good club tends?to look past a mediocre team (yes, in my mind one game above? ?.500 in my mind is mediocre.) I don’t know that was the case Monday night, but from the outside looking in it appeared ?that way. The Green Team jumped on top at the end of the first quarter by a 28-22 margin. But instead of piling on in the second quarter they allowed Philadelphia to regain their composure, and the lead was down to 4 points at the half with Boston having a 52-48 advantage.? The Celtics led 71-66 at the end of the third quarter, which led to the fourth quarter dramatics.
Andre Iguodala led all scorers with 28 points, 4 rebounds, 4 assists, 3 steals, in the Philadelphia victory. Andre Miller scored 20 points, 6 assists, 6 rebounds, 1 steal, Thaddeus Young came off the pine and scored 16 points, and grabbed 9 boards.
Boston was led by the reigning NBA Eastern Conference Player Of The Week, Kevin Garnett who scored 18 points, 5 rebounds, 2 assists, 1 steal. Leon Powe came off the bench scored 16 points, and grabbed 7 boards, Ray Allen scored 14 points, 6 assists, 2 rebounds. Paul Pierce scored 12 points, 3 assists, 3 rebounds, 2 steals, Eddie House also had a nice game off of the pine as he scored 11 points, 1 assist, 1 steal, 1 rebound. The Sixers are now 36-35, Boston is now 55-15.
