Portland Trail Blazers guard Jarrett Jack (#1) talks with Brandon Roy (#7) who is suffering from a groin strain at the end of the first quarter of their game against the Washington Wizards, played Tuesday night. Portland beat Washington 102-82.

?Nothing worse than a “good-news, bad-news” story, especially when it involves the Portland Trail Blazers and their top scorer, Brandon Roy.? The good news is that in Tuesday night’s game against the Washington Wizards, they in fact soundly beat the Wizards 102-82 – that’s the good news.? The bad news?? Already without LaMarcus Aldridge, the Blazers also lost Roy to a strained right groin just before the first quarter ended, not to return.

Portland would struggle a bit after Roy’s departure, as the Wizards cut the Blazers’ lead to 33-32 on Roger Mason’s 3-pointer; with a 42-39 lead, Portland would go on a 13-4 run that Travis Outlaw and Jarrett Jack capped with consecutive treys.? Washington would never get within sniffing distance of the lead, as a result.? Portland was led by Martell Webster with 23 points, including four 3-pointers, 3 rebounds, an assist and a block while Outlaw scored 20 with 6 rebounds, 5 assists and a block; Jack added 17 with 5 rebounds, 6 assists and 2 steals.

Washington was led by Caron Butler with 19 points, 7 rebounds, 3 assists and 2 steals while Antonio Daniels scored 14 with 3 rebounds, 8 assists and 2 steals.? Portland (38-34) will now take the short flight to Oakland, CA to face the Golden State Warriors Thursday while Washington (36-34) travels north on I-5 to take on the Seattle SuperSonics Wednesday.
