The North Carolina Tar Heels discovered something that they haven’t used very much of despite their success on the court: their defense.? The Tar Heels’ defense on Thursday held the Washington State Cougars’ offense to 32% shooting and Tyler Hansbrough’s 16 second-half points elevated North Carolina to the Elite Eight as they soundly beat Washington State 68-47 in the East Regional semifinals at Charlotte Bobcats Arena in Charlotte, NC.?

North Carolina’s leading scorer was the aforementioned Hansbrough with 18 points, 9 rebounds, an assist, a steal and a block while Danny Green, from off the bench, scored 15 with three 3-pointers, 5 rebounds, an assist, 3 steals and a block; Wayne Ellington added 15 with 8 rebounds and a steal.? Washington State was led by Aron Baynes and Derrick Low with 14 points each – with Baynes grabbing 8 rebounds with 2 steals while Low dished out an assist.? North Carolina now advances to the Elite Eight?as they will face the winner of the Louisville-Tennessee game on Saturday, March 29 at Charlotte Bobcats Arena.?
