Jefferson Says Nets Were “Dead Men Walking”

The pile on from members of the New Jersey Nets about Jason Kidd’s performance in New Jersey this season, before he was traded in a blockbuster deal last month the the Dallas Mavericks. Last month it was Team President Rod Thorn, who after consummating the trade said some disparaging remarks about?his former point guard’s attitude and effort this season. When Kidd tried to defend himself, Thorn dismissed the remarks as being irrelevant, because Kidd was no longer playing for the team. (Ironically, Thorn did not see the contradiction, because the comments he made were also after Kidd was gone. Why were those statements any more relevant?) The “Record” out of New Jersey has reported that forward Richard Jefferson is the latest to join the bash bunch. Jefferson for what ever reason, felt the sudden urge to express his opinion on the J-Kidd situation. Jefferson told reporters “I’m not going to lie. We were dead men walking with the Jason Kidd situation. Everybody knew that it was time, that he needed a change, that he wanted a change. People made it seem like that situation came up only when he went public. No, that situation had been going on pretty much all season, but it was behind closed doors. We do a very good job of keeping our laundry in house, our dirty laundry. But Jason needed a change, I think the team needed a change. So when we were losing nine games in a row, that stuff never would have happened if we were all of the right mind, the entire team. Now are we paying for it? Yes!”

I’m sorry but I think Richard Jefferson did a bush league thing in making these statements. If the Nets do such a good job of keeping their dirty laundry in house, why did he decide to show it to the world now? Bottom line Richard, you are a good power forward in the NBA. J-Kidd is a future Hall Of Fame Player, there is no such thing as the “Hall Of Good.” Jason Kidd took a franchise that the last time they had tasted any success was back in their ABA days with a young Dr. J, and brought them to the NBA finals. Jason Kidd made you Richard look a lot better than you do now as a player.? Richard the next time you feel you have to speak out on an issue, go into a closet, shut the door, and scream your lungs out. At least that way you won’t look foolish!
