Celtics Shut Down Pacers For Historic Win 92-77
Posted by Jeff Sack under Main
The “Big Ticket” Boston Celtics forward Kevin Garnett recorded a double-double, as he led his team to a lock down of the Indiana Pacers Wednesday night at the “New Garden” winning the game 92-77.? With the win, Boston is now tied with the 1997-1998 San Antonio Spurs for the best turn around in the history of the Association. The Spurs went from a mark of 20-62 to 56-26, the Green Team last season was 24-58, Boston is after this victory 60-15. It is also the first time?since the 1985-1986 campaign that the Celtics have achieved 60 or more wins. That team went 67-15, and defeated the Houston Rockets for Boston’s NBA Championship number 16, the last time the team won the Finals. Fittingly that team had a shooting guard who is now Boston’s Director of Basketball Operations, Danny?Ainge, and their star forward?is the Team President for Indiana?Larry Bird.
This game really was decided early as the Pacers?never seemed in sync at all during the game. The Celtics pulled ahead at the end of the first quarter by the score of 29-17. It was even less competitive in the second quarter as Boston had a lead of 49-30 at the half.? The Pacers responded in the third quarter, but it was far too little, and far too late as the Celts led 68-52. The fourth quarter was just extended garbage time.
KG scored a game high 20 points, grabbed 11 boards, 4 assists, 2 steals, 1 block.? Ray Allen scored 15 points, 3 assists, 2 steals, 1 rebound, another big night coming off the bench for Leon Powe who scored 14 points, 9 rebounds, 1 assist, 1 steal, 1 block. Paul Pierce scored 13 points, 5 assists, 5 rebounds.
Danny Granger led the way for Indiana as he scored 14 points, 7 rebounds, 3 steals, 1 assist. Mike Dunleavy scored 12 points, 2 rebounds, 1 assist, 1 steal, 1 block, Jermaine O’Neal came off the bench and scored 12 points, 3 rebounds, 1 block. Troy Murphy recorded a double-double, as he scored 11 points, grabbed 10 boards, 1 steal. Boston is 60-15, the Pacers are 31-44.
