Pritchard “Optimistic” Miles Can No Longer Play
Posted by Jeff Sack under Main
Portland Trail Blazers General Manager Kevin Pritchard appears to be a very harsh man. I have never met Pritchard, and after reading his comments, I don’t know that I ever care to. The “Oregonian” reported Friday that after doctors examined injured veteran Darius Miles on Thursday, Pritchard told reporters that he was “optimistic” that the physicians would rule that Miles is physically unable to play, and his NBA career is over. Now Kevin, I understand you will get precious salary cap relief, if Miles is ruled not to be able to play. However, to say you are “optimistic” that a man’s career is over is callous, and unthinking at best, and rather mercenary sounding to this observer. Kevin, think about what you said. You told reporters, that you hope one of your own players, is so badly hurt, that he will never be able to play again! When you were a kid,?did you used to pull the wings off of flies to watch them suffer? ?Talk about a heart of stone!? Kevin, I just hope you never move into my neighborhood, I would hate to depend on some one with your lack of compassion.

I know! Poor Darius Miles He’s only going to make 18 million dollars of the next two years on top of the 30 million he made over the previous four having played in a total of 103 games. Believe me, his heart was always 100% in those games. How dare Pritchard look forward to garnering more productivity with Allen’s millions than that? Maybe we should start a charity fund for Miles and Spreewell?

I’m pretty sure he meant to say he was certain that Miles’ career was over, and just chose an overly positive word to express that. He often uses phrases like “tremendous” and “unbelievable” even when they don’t quite fit. Probably because he hasn’t been a public figure for all that long. I know Kevin, and he’s a good guy with a good heart.
