While it is true that the Memphis Grizzlies are a rebuilding team headed for the NBA lottery this offseason, it should be said that while home teams can be beat in their backyard, there’s no excuse for getting shellacked.? The Golden State Warriors, playing for their playoff lives, shot 54% from the floor, exploiting the Grizzlies’ youth and lack of talent as they blasted the Grizzlies Friday, 117-86 at FedEx?Forum.
The Warriors dominated the Grizzlies in all of the important stats - shooting percentage (53.8% vs. Memphis’ 39.1%), rebounding (55-39) and assists (25-14); Golden State began to pull away after halftime, starting with a 7-1 spurt as Memphis missed 7 of their first 8 shots.? The Warriors held a 28-points lead in the third quarter and led 90-66 going into the final period; by that time, the issue was long decided.? Golden State had 6 players in double-digits, led by Andris Biedrins, who provided a solid game with 21 points, 17 rebounds, a steal and 2 blocks while Monta Ellis scored 19 with 6 rebounds, an assist and 4 steals; Kelenna Azubuike, in a rare start, added 15 with 3 treys and 10 rebounds.
Memphis was led by Rudy Gay with 23 points, including 3 three-pointers, 7 rebounds, 3 assists and 2 blocks while Hakim Warrick scored 13 with 5 rebounds and 3 steals.? Golden State (46-30), hoping to sneak into the #8 seed of the Western Conference playoff standings, make the short trip to New Orleans to take on the Hornets Sunday while Memphis (20-56) flies to Minneapolis to face the Timberwolves - also on Sunday.
