Tim Duncan recorded a double-double, and the San Antonio Spurs won their twelfth straight game absolutely suffocating the Portland Trail Blazers Sunday 72-65. It was a double loss for the Blazers who not only lost the contest but their starting center Joel Pryzbilla for the last five games of the season. Pryzbilla broke a bone in his right hand late in the second quarter, when he slammed it against the rim.

This game was ugly with a capital “U” as both teams had pretty poor offensive games. San Antonio only shot 38.9% ( 28-72) from the floor for the game, but they held Portland to an even less impressive 34.2% (25-73) from the field. Last week I was praising the NBA, saying that I was happy to see a return to triple digit games on both sides of the scoreboard. This weekend, has been filled with games that look like the Detroit Pistons against the New York Knicks circa 1991. Slow down low scoring boring games, and this one was right near the top! San Antonio and Portland both looked like they needed a road map to find the basket during the first quarter, as the Spurs had the upper hand at the end of the first quarter by the laughable? score of 17-13.? The two opponents played slightly better in the second quarter, but the score at the half resembled a lot of the end of?first quarter scores in games this season. San Antonio went into locker room?with a 39-34 lead at the half. It was more of the same during the second half, the Spurs led 61-52 at the end of quarter number three. Friday night against the Utah Jazz the Spurs became the first of three teams in three days to score?just 9 points in the fourth quarter ( Charlotte Saturday, Phoenix Sunday.)?Sunday night they did slightly better, they scored 11, fortunately for San Antonio the Blazers scored just 13, and the Spurs held on for the win.

Tim Duncan scored a game?high 27 points, grabbed 11 boards, and had 1 block in the San Antonio victory.? Bruce Bowen scored 10 points, 3 rebounds, 1 assist, Manu Ginobili also scored 10 points, 6 assists, 3 rebounds.

Brandon Roy led Portland with 18 points, 4 assists, 4 rebounds, 1 block.? LaMarcus Aldridge recorded a double-double, as he scored 12 points, grabbed 11 boards, 3 blocks, 1 assist, Travis Outlaw scored 14 points, 3 rebounds, 1 steal. The Spurs improve to 53-24, Portland is now 38-39.
