Jazz Win Ugly Shut Down Hornets 77-66
Posted by Jeff Sack under Main
Mehmet Okur recorded a double-double, and the Utah Jazz shut down the New Orleans Hornets limiting them to shooting 36.5% (27-74) and winning Tuesday 77-66.? This game was as ugly as? the score indicates as it was not only low scoring on both sides, but?both teams played sloppy, leading to lots of turnovers. New Orleans had 19 leading to 21 Utah points, while the Jazz had 22, but New Orleans could only score 17 points, on them.
I realize that we are nearing the end of the regular season, and not only are players physically drained, but they are starting to look ahead to the playoffs. But both these teams have been among the elite in the Association all season, the expectations for this game were much higher than the end results.? The first quarter both teams played well as the Jazz led at the end of the first period 27-24. But both teams started geting sloppy in the second quarter, and they limped into the half with Utah ahead 43-35.?Utah awoke from their collective snooze in the third period, but the Hornets still looked like they were playing on a court made of mud, as the Jazz grabbed a 68-50 lead at the end of the third quarter. Now there has been a disturbing trend that has infiltrated the NBA since last Friday night, it effected San Antonio, that night, Charlotte, the following night, and Sunday Phoenix was the victim. It happened to the Jazz Monday night making it four nights out of four that it has occurred (the Association was dark Monday night.) I don’t know if it’s a fad or a disease but either way it must be stopped! What is this scourge of which I write? All four of these teams scored 9 points in the fourth quarters of their games! The first three teams lost, Utah had enough buffer they held on for the win.
Mehmet Okur scored a game high 22 points, grabbed 17 boards, 1 assist, 1 steal. Carlos Boozer was one of?three ?Jazz players who scored 10?points each, ?Boozer had ?6 rebounds, 1 assist, 1 steal, 1 block, Andrei Kirilenko scored 10 points, 8 rebounds, 4 steals, 3 assists, 2 blocks. Paul Milsap scored 10 points, 7 rebounds, 2 steals.
Peja Stojakovic scored 15 points, 2 rebounds, 1 steal, 1 block. David West was the only other Hornets player in double figures, as he scored 14 points, 7 rebounds, 4 assists, 2 blocks. Utah improves to 52-26 the Hornets are 54-23.
