Jamison Puts On A Show Wizards Wallop Celtics 109-95
Posted by Jeff Sack under Main
Tuesday night the Boston Celtics won a game in overtime over the Milwaukee Bucks that they probably could have won handily in regulation, had Doc Rivers allowed Kevin?Garnett, Ray Allen, and?Paul Pierce back in the game down the stretch. Well the “Elite Three” all played major minutes Wednesday night but Antawn Jamison recorded a double-double, and the Washington Wizards shot 51.3% (40-78) from the floor for the game as they ran away and hid from Boston winning 109-95.? Jamison punctuated hid his night by “posterizing” KG slamming the ball home over the Boston All-Star.?The victory was the third time this season that Washington has defeated the Celtics, winning the season series 3-1.
The Washington Wizards if healthy could do a lot of damage in the NBA Eastern Conference Playoffs. The key is for them to not get hurt. In 2006 the Wizards gave the Cleveland Cavaliers all they could handle in a first round matchup, before the Cavaliers put them away. Last year with Gilbert Arenas and Caron Butler both out due to injuries,?Cleveland swept them but even then Jamison gave them fits every night.?With Arenas now back, and Butler being back for a while, they are a dangerous matchup for the Cavaliers in the?first round.
Washington broke out to a 30-25 lead at the end of the first quarter. The Green Team came back in the second quarter and cut the Wizards lead to 55-53 at the half. Washington led by as big a margin as 15 points in the third quarter, and the two teams went into the final 12 minutes. with the Wizards leading 82-71. Boston got the Detroit lead down to just 6 points late in the fourth quarter as the Pistons lead was down to 101-95. And then the Celtics just ran out of gas, they never scored a point the rest of the night, as Detroit ended the quarter on a 8-0 run.
Jamison scored 27 points, 11 boards, 2 assists, 1 steal, in the Washington victory. DeShawn Stevenson scored 14 points, 4 assists, 2 steals, 1 rebound, Caron Butler registered a double-double, 13 points, dished off 10 assists, 7 rebounds, 2 steals, 1 block. Gilbert Arenas coming off the bench trying to get back his timing looked like he was well on the road to finding it scoring 13 points, 4 steals, 3 assists, 1 rebound, Brendan Haywood scored 12 points, 6 rebounds, 1 block.?Darius Songaila scored 10 points, 5 rebounds, 1 steal.
Paul Pierce?led all scorers with 28 points,?7 assists, 2?rebounds, 1 steal,1 block. Kevin Garnett recorded a double-double, scoring 22 points, a game high 14 boards, 5 assists, 1 block, 1 steal, Ray Allen scored 13 points, 4 rebounds, 1 steal. Washington is now 41-37, Boston is 62-16.
