Rondo’s Double-Double Helps Celtics Knock Down Knicks

On?a night when Kevin Garnett, Ray Allen, and Paul Pierce did not play as Boston Celtics head coach Doc Rivers gave them the night off, point guard Rajon Rondo took advantage of the opportunity to shine. Rondo did exactly that as he recorded a double-double and led Boston to a 99-93 win over the New York Knicks. This may have been the last time for the fans at MSG to scream “Fire Isiah” as the Knicks finish their season in Indiana Wednesday night.? New Knicks Team President Donnie Walsh will come to a decision on Zeke’s status with the team after that.

Boston had a razor thin lead at the end of the first quarter as they led 21-20. But New York got hot in the second quarter and they pulled out to a 54-49 lead. The Knicks still had the upper hand at the end of the third quarter as they were leading 75-73 heading into the final 12 minutes. But the Celtics broke away in the final period as New York was left in the dust.

Veteran Sam Cassell had his second strong game in a row as he scored 22 points, 5 rebounds, James Posey scored 15 points, 3 steals, 3 rebounds, 2 blocks, 1 assist. Nate Robinson came off the pine, and scored a game high 26 points, 6 rebounds, 1 assist.
