Pistons Top Pathetic T-Wolves 115-103
Posted by Jeff Sack under Main
Minnesota Timberwolves owner Glen Taylor has got all his wishes come true. At least if he wanted to decimate his franchise, which seemingly has been his mission since last off-season. Minnesota never really was that far behind the Detroit Pistons Tuesday night in the match up, but you could just feel they would never get close enough to challenge. Detroit led by Jarvis Hayes who scored 20 points off the bench, while no Pistons starter played more than 28 minutes handily defeated Minnesota 115-103.
Taylor decided to go into rebuild mode last off-season, trading one of the Association’s top five players Kevin Garnett to the Boston Celtics for a huge package of players, and draft choices. The T-Wolves do have some talent on the team, center Al Jefferson is a superstar in the making. They have some nice players, in Marko Jaric, Ryan Gomes, and Rashad McCants. They also have a lot of extraneous flotsam and jetsam like Michael Doleac, Mark Madsen, and Greg Buckner. They have a head coach in Randy Wittman who is one of the nicest guys you will ever meet. However, he was clueless as a head coach in Cleveland, and looks just as lost in Minnesota. Kevin McHale, was a guy I idolized as a player, his credentials as a General Manager are not impressive. And if Mr. Taylor wants to acquire free agents, this off-season, how many guys? do you think are going to want to sign with the T-Wolves, when they have left Antoine Walker in limbo since February? Or the way that Taylor trashed Garnett a month or so ago? The T-Wolves could be bad for a really long time.
If there was ever a “Picture Dictionary” and you wanted? an image of the word “Non-descript” this game would be the perfect example. Detroit had a razor thin 24-23 lead at the end of the first quarter. The Pistons extended their advantage to 52-43 lead at the half. Detroit increased their lead to 86-72 by the end of the third quarter. The fourth quarter was extended garbage time.
Jarvis Hayes scored 20 points, 5 rebounds, 3 assists, Richard Hamilton scored 18 points, 4 steals, 3 assists. Chauncey Billups scored 17 points, 6 assists, 1 rebound, 1 steal, Antonio McDyess scored 10 points, 6 rebounds, 1 steal, 1 block, 1 assist. Tayshaun Prince scored 10 points, 7 rebounds, 1 assist, 1 block.
Al Jefferson led all players as he scored 30 points, 9 rebounds, 2 blocks, 1 assist, 1 steal, Rashad McCants scored 19 points, 2 steals, 2 assists, 1 rebound.? Ryan Gomes scored 14 points, 9 rebounds, 6 assists, 3 steals, Randy Foye scored 13 points, 9 assists, 3 steals.? Marko Jaric also scored 13 points, 4 rebounds, 3 assists, 2 blocks. Detroit is now 58-23, Minnesota, 21-60.
