The “Sacramento Bee” reported Thursday that Sacramento Kings head coach Reggie Theus believes that the one player on his team that is indispensable is Ron Artest. Artest who earlier in the season said he was going to exercise his option to opt out of his contract, in the past few weeks has recanted, and said he wants to stay with the Kings. Artest who really was in most parts a model NBA citizen this season, created some controversy in early February. Tru-Warrior told reporters that Theus and the team would be better off without him, and that he should be traded. He took that request off the table however, right after the Kings traded point guard Mike Bibby to Atlanta. Theus told reporters that Artest was the one guy on the team that really they could ill afford to lose. The rookie coach said When you look at the good teams in the league, every good team has somebody they can throw the ball to,” Theus said. “Down the stretch of games, what people don’t really understand is that teams are throwing the ball to Tracy McGrady and letting him decide and figure out what’s going on. They’re throwing the ball to Kobe. They’re throwing the ball to Dirk Nowitzki. They’re throwing the ball to their best player and letting that guy get the double team and get out of it. Outside of Ron Artest, we don’t have anyone you can throw the ball to. Without that guy, we’re going to have to start figuring out where we’re going to throw the ball.”
