Celtics’ Assistants Proving To Be Hot Commodities

?????????????????????Celtics assistant coach Tom ThibodeauCeltics assistant coach Armond Hill

One thing that is for certain, especially during the NBA postseason and offseason – if you’re an?assistant coach on a very successful NBA franchise, you’re going to garner lots of interest from other NBA teams.? It’s just how it is in the NBA.? A good example of that analogy are the Boston?Celtics; two of their assistant coaches, Tom Thibodeau and Armond Hill, according to team coach Doc Rivers on Monday, are getting interest from several NBA franchises about their coaching vacancies.

Rivers, according to the Boston Globe, wouldn’t divulge the names of the teams in question; however, it is widely known that New York, Chicago and Milwaukee (the Bucks may hire Scott Skiles, so that may be one less?team in the running) have coaching vacancies that need to be filled.? Thibodeau and Hill are obviously known commodities around the league; Thibodeau is known for his defensive expertise and played a big part in Boston having the NBA’s top defense this season.? He has also helped coach 15 (yes, that’s right – 15) NBA teams?that have been in the top 10 in defense.?

Hill is in his 4th year as a Celtics assistant; he was also an assistant for the Atlanta Hawks and was coach for Columbia University for 8 seasons.? Hill’s calling card is in his offensive principles and his calm demeanor while on the floor.? Whether that translates to a future gig in the NBA as a coach is speculation at this point, but Hill isn’t a stranger to the NBA, nonetheless.? Expect lots of inquiries into Thibodeau and Hill once the NBA season is finally over or when the Celtics get eliminated from the playoffs – whichever comes first.
