Two teams that both were no where near the NBA Post Season last year faced off on Sunday. One team had the best record in the Association during the regular season at 66-16. The other would not be in the playoffs in the Western Conference as they were below .500 and finished the campaign at 37-45. Sounds like the scenario for for a good old fashioned butt kicking, wouldn’t you say? Well the two?opponents followed the script and the Boston Celtics blew out the Atlanta Hawks in the opening game?of their first round playoff series 104-81. The Green Team dominated from start to finish.

Boston started off with a 29-21 lead at the end of the first quarter. They extended their lead?to 49-40 as the two teams went to their respective locker rooms at the half. The Celtics basically put the game away in the third quarter as they broke out to a 73-55 lead. the Hawks were never a credible threat in the fourth quarter.

No real standout performances from the Celtics in game one, just a bunch of solid ones.? Ray Allen led the Green?Team with 18 points, 3 rebounds, 2?assists, 1 steal, in the Boston victory.? Kevin Garnett recorded a double-double as he scored 16 points, grabbed 10 boards, 4 assists, Paul Pierce also scored 16 points, 3 assists, 3 rebounds,?1 steal, 1 block. Rajon Rondo just missed a double-double, scoring 15 points, 9 assists, 6 rebounds, 2 steals. Leon Powe came off the pine to score 10 points, 4 rebounds, 2 blocks, 1 assist, Sam Cassell also had a big game off the bench as he also scored 10 points, 2 rebounds, 1 assist.

Al Horford recorded a double-double for Atlanta, as he scored a game high 20 points, 10 boards 2 assists, 1 steal, 1 block.? Joe Johnson scored 19 points, 7 assists, 5 rebounds, Josh Childress scored 10 points coming off the bench, 7 rebounds, 2 blocks, 1 assist. Boston now takes a 1-0 lead in the First Round Series.
