The Associated Press reported Saturday that the Charlotte Bobcats have dismissed head coach Sam Vincent after his rookie season. He still has another year on his contract. The report also states that there seems to be mutual interest between the team and Larry Brown to possibly take over as bench boss next season. Vincent, a former teammate of Bobcats’ Minority Team Owner Michael Jordan had been rumored to be in jeopardy of losing his job since about February. Vincent recently told reporters, that as far as he was concerned he would be back as coach in the fall. Jordan who made the ultimate call, did not see it the same way.

Brown told reporters last month that he was jonesing to get back into coaching either in the Association or the College ranks. What he would have in Charlotte, would be probably the best of both worlds. A team with young players he could teach but without having to go out and recruit players as he would have to do at the collegiate level. Brown began his coaching career in Charlotte with the Carolina Cougars of the old ABA from 1972-1974. Brown’s mother also lives in Charlotte. He resigned Thursday as Vice President of the Philadelphia 76ers, a move that fed rumors that he may be on the verge of negotiating a deal. Neither the Bobcats or Brown have commented on the story, Vincent is scheduled to talk with reporters Sunday.
