Knicks Interested In D’Antoni

Folks, you can add one more name to the Knicks’ coaching shopping list: Phoenix Suns coach Mike D’Antoni; according to Marc Berman of the New York Post, Knicks’ president Donnie Walsh added D’Antoni to the list of possibilities – under the assumption that D’Antoni is fired by the Suns after the first round of the Western Conference playoffs.? At this juncture, Walsh has his eyes set on 4 NBA coaches who are on the hot seat: Phoenix’s D’Antoni, Toronto’s Sam Mitchell, Dallas’ Avery Johnson and Detroit’s Flip Saunders; Mark Jackson would swell the list to 5.?

Denver Nuggets coach George Karl is being considered as well, but it is looking very likely that Karl will be retained by Denver – even?though the Nuggets got swept by the Los Angeles Lakers in their first round series.? D’Antoni’s name is also being possibly linked to the Raptors coaching job to replace Mitchell.? The Knicks, in their mind’s eye, do not consider the Chicago Bulls a serious destination for Jackson, despite the meeting that’s scheduled between Jackson and the Bulls.? Even veteran coach Paul Silas is inquiring about the Knicks’ vacancy, so things are getting more interesting by the day; Silas, however, hasn’t been an NBA coach since he was fired by the Cleveland Cavaliers back in 2005.? Stay tuned to Slam Dunk Central for the latest developments in the Knicks’ search for their next coach.
