The Associated Press confirmed a report that we conveyed to you earlier at Slam Dunk Central?the Charlotte Bobcats have hired Larry Brown to be their new head coach. The Bobcats held a press conference Tuesday to introduce Brown to the media and the fans of the NBA franchise from Charlotte. Brown replaces Sam Vincent who although signed for a two year contract, was shown the door after his first season ended. How much of a factor Brown’s availability was in the firing of Vincent, is open to conjecture. However this is not the first time this has happened, the Detroit Pistons fired Rick Carlisle to make the position available for Brown. He of course led them to a NBA Championship.

Brown has deep roots in Charlotte, he of course played at UNC, and then started his coaching career in the city with the old ABA team the Carolina Cougars. Brown’s mother and other relatives also live in Charlotte. The press conference was of course a love fest as the 67 year old Brown and Bobcats minority owner Michael Jordan kept heaping the praises on each other. Brown has signed a four year deal, and his name is a much bigger draw at this point, than?players such as Gerald Wallace, Emeka Okafor, Jason Richardson, or Raymond Felton.

So this stop will be the end of the line for Larry, right?? Before you rush to Vegas to put down money at your favorite Sports Book, may I suggest a much safer investment? You see I have this bell, It’s a very big bell, quite old, and very beautiful. It does have a crack in it, but I assure you it does not affect the tone. In fact you can even see it before you buy it!? Just head to Philadelphia and ask your cabdriver to take you to the “Liberty Bell”. Now unfortunately, I can not allow you to ring it until you buy it, other wise I would have all these tire kickers who would come just to ring it! But I promise you will be very happy, price negotiable.

Now I don’t want to ruin the “Honeymoon Period” for Larry and the city of Charlotte, but the fact is you have just hired a man as?your coach who is now going to be coaching his ninth NBA Team! That’s almost a third of the league! Larry lives for the conquest, to get the gig, but many times tires very quickly there after. Will this be the case in Charlotte? Well, now you have two men in the same organization, who are both used to getting their way and having their ego’s stroked Brown, and Jordan. What happens, and it will eventually happen, when the two have a disagreement? Who gives in? Jordan because of the respect he has for the older Brown, or Brown, because Jordan is the boss? And who ever does give in, will have at least a kernel of resentment inside them, which can only lead to bad things down the line. Maybe the two?of them have?explored these issues already and come to an understanding. I doubt it, but certainly possible, but even if that’s true, theory is one thing, action is a totally different thing! Let’s just sit back and relax, and wait it out. One thing we know for sure Charlotte will be a very interesting stop on the NBA road tour come next season.
