Durant Officially Named NBA Rookie Of The Year

In a story that we reported earlier this week at Slam Dunk Central?the NBA announced Thursday that Seattle SuperSonics forward Kevin Durant was named the NBA Rookie of the?year. ? Durant was taken by Seattle with the second pick in the 2007 NBA Draft. The number one pick Portland’s Greg Oden missed the season due to micro-fracture surgery on his knee. Durant who beat out his only true competition Atlanta’s Al Horford who finished second in the voting, averaged 20.3 points as a rookie, the highest scoring average on his team. He also averaged the largest ppg average as a rookie since the 2003-2004 campaign when Carmelo Anthony led all rookies with 21 points per game and LeBron James averaged 20.9 points per game. Al Horford averaged 10.1 points, 9.7 boards per game and was a key component in the Hawks making the Post Season.
