The Philadelphia Daily News reported Friday that Philadelphia 76ers General Manager Ed Stefanski is interested in sitting down with his head coach Maurice Cheeks and talking about a contract extension. Cheeks led the Sixers to the NBA Playoffs this season, they were eliminated Thursday night in their first round series against the Detroit Pistons. Cheeks of course was the point guard for the 1983 NBA Championship Sixers. Stefanski told reporters “When I took the job I didn’t know Maurice, but I’ve been very happy with what I’ve seen! When I gave him the 1 year extension, and I know some people felt I should have done more, I felt it was a reward. I’ve been very happy since then, too.” Stefanski came to Philadelphia from the Nets organization back in December.
