??????????????????????????????????????????????????????
Unlike the majority of NBA teams, the San Antonio Spurs value continuity and stability – especially as far as their coach is concerned; according to Mike Monroe of the San Antonio Express-News, team owner Peter Holt has signed current coach Gregg Popovich to a 2-year extension which would keep him in San Antonio until the 2011-12 season.? The way that Holt describes it, you wouldn’t know that an extension has been signed as he told the Express-News, ?He keeps telling me he?s too busy.? But I think he finally did this week.? It?s all right, though, because we?ve got a handshake, and with Pop, that?s enough.”
Hmmm.? I’d say that it’s a done deal only because Tim Duncan, just before he signed his latest contract extension insisted that Popovich remain the coach during the duration of his extension – which also runs through the 2011-12 season.? But without a doubt, Holt is probably envisioning a scenario much like when David Robinson, just before he retired, earned a championship ring, back in 2003; that was the year that San Antonio won their 2nd NBA title.
