Slam Dunk Central Reporter Stephen Rhodes’ 2008 NBA Mock Draft
Posted by Stephen Rhodes under Slam Dunk NBA Draft Central
?????????????????????????????????????????????????
Happy Memorial Day to everyone from Slam Dunk Central!!? Yesterday, I covered the Seattle SuperSonics’ needs and who I projected them to draft with their first-round pick in the 2008 NBA Draft.? Today I cover the Memphis Grizzlies as I assess their immediate needs and who I predict they will select with their first-round pick.
Memphis Grizzlies
Draft Position - #5
Needs: Shooting guard, center.? Memphis’ problem is that they’re top-heavy at point guard.? And the Grizzlies have Casey Jacobsen and Javaris Crittenton as their 2-guards - which should be reason enough to get a shooting guard with their pick.? But knowing the braintrust in Memphis, they will find a way to mess up this year.
Memphis Grizzlies select: Danilo Gallinari, SF, Armani Jeans Milano (Italy)
Tomorrow: New York Knicks

Talk about stating the obvious and then blowing the conclusion. Yes Memphis has a need at backup SG/SF (Miller is the starting SG by the way and was good enough to make the USA team last summer that qualified for the Olympics) and PF/C.
Explain to me how the Memphis braintrust has screwed up things lately and what do you know about them? The Gasol trade made not be understood by the unknowing but anyone with a little business sense can understand how cutting 20% of your payroll on a losing team with poor fan support makes sense. This is the same braintrust that acquired Mike Conley, Navarro, Gay and Lowry in the last two seasons after all.
Chris Wallace is reknowned for his talent at identifying real NBA players. His draft picks have included Chauncey Billups, Paul Pierce, Joe Johnson and Al Jefferson in the past.
Criticize the Gallinari selection if you thihk he is too weak to take at #5 but stop with the petty BS about Memphis screwing up or back up your comment with facts to support it.
