Donovan: No Regrets
Posted by Jeff Sack under Main
The “Gainesville Sun” reported Wednesday that University of Florida head coach Billy Donovan says he has had no second thoughts, or any regrets about backing out of a deal to be the head coach of the Orlando Magic. On June 2, of last year Donovan was introduced to the media and fans of the Orlando Magic as their new head coach. Donovan reportedly was signed to a five year pact with the Magic, believed to be worth $27.5 million. However after a few days reports of his having a change of heart began to surface. On June 8, it was announced that Donovan, realizing that he would miss the college atmosphere, and his relationship with associates and players, made it clear to the Magic, that his heart was still in Gainesville. Stan Van Gundy was hired to replace Donovan and the Magic went on to win the Southeast Division.
Donovan?said to?reporters this week?”I haven’t really thought much about what might have been. I feel like I’m in a great situation, and I think Orlando is in a good situation. There will always be a lot of talk about what could have happened or what the future could be. But sometimes things work out for different reasons. I’m just happy everything worked out like it did.”
