Slam Dunk Central Reporter Stephen Rhodes’ 2008 NBA Mock Draft

??????????????????????????????????????
Yesterday, I covered the New York Knicks’ needs and who I projected as their selection with their first-round pick.? Today, I cover the Los Angeles Clippers, their needs and who I predict they will select with their first-round pick.
Los Angeles Clippers
Draft Position - #7
Needs: Shooting guard, point guard, small forward.? Shaun Livingston’s health is of concern to the Clippers.? I suspect that Brevin Knight and Cuttino Mobley are on borrowed time in LA, so there’s definitely a need at both guard positions.? Equally as shaky is the status of Corey Maggette, so the possibility of drafting a small forward is out there, as well.
Los Angeles Clippers select: Eric Gordon, PG/SG, Indiana
Tomorrow: Milwaukee Bucks

Unlikely Duo To Attempt To Lure NBA All-Star Game To Dallas
Filed Under NBA PLAYOFFS | Leave a Comment
Oftentimes when a city attempts to lure a major sporting event, they usually go it alone or with some type of corporate and/or governmental support; the city of Dallas apparently is thinking outside of the box in that attempt.? According to David Moore of the Dallas Morning News, the Dallas Mavericks and Dallas Cowboys (folks, that was not a typo) have teamed up in an effort to bring the NBA All-Star Game to Dallas - perhaps as early as 2010.? While no bid has been submitted as of yet, the parties involved in the process have emphasized that the effort is in the exploratory stages at the moment.
While it is common knowledge that the Cowboys have been looking to stage a wide variety of sporting and entertainment events in their new facility, they seem to feel that hosting the NBA All-Star Game would fall into that criteria and would indirectly help Mavericks owner Mark Cuban address one of his concerns; Cuban is reluctant to host the game at American Airlines Center because of NBA corporate obligations which would deprive season-ticket holders of their seats.? Moving the game to Arlington would eliminate that speed bump.
One option that may possibly work is to hold the preliminary events leading up to the game at American Airlines Center and the game itself at the Cowboys’ new facility; the NBA has already sent reps to the Cowboys’ new stadium to get acquainted with the facility (read: conducted a site survey).? Currently, Phoenix will host the 2009 NBA All-Star Game and no other cities beyond that timetable have been awarded a game as of yet; that lends?urgency to the city of Dallas?to the possibility of getting their ducks lined up in a row to successfully host the NBA All-Star Game.? The earliest possible date is 2010; if Dallas is unsuccessful in that bid, then the next possible date would probably be 2012 as Super Bowl XLV will be held at the Dallas football facility in February 2011.? The NBA All-Star Game is held later that same month, so logistically, it wouldn’t make much sense; ironically, the last football stadium to host an NBA All-Star Game was the Alamodome in San Antonio, TX back in 1996.
