During my career as a radio beat reporter in Cleveland, many people approached me, and asked me how to “make it in the broadcasting business.” I always told people the same thing; 90% of being successful in my business is being in the right place at the right time. However the other 10% is more important, it’s what you do with the opportunity when it is presented to you. San Antonio Spurs forward Robert Horry has made a very successful career in the Association, by doing just that. Horry who will turn 38 years old this August just completed his sixteenth season in the NBA. He has won seven NBA Championships, with three different teams. The Houston Rockets in the early part of his career, the Los Angeles Lakers in his middle years, and the San Antonio Spurs where he won his seventh title last year.? The veteran now holds the record for most NBA Playoff games played. He eclipsed former Lakers center Kareem Abdul-Jabbar’s mark this season as he now has 244, to Kareem’s 237. The Associated Press is reporting that Horry told reporters he is not sure whether he will lace up his sneakers for another go round. He told reporters “Right now I’m up in the air. That’s all I can really tell you, up in the air. I want to play, 80% of me wants to play and I’m sure as soon as I get in the gym and see people bouncing the ball it would turn into 100%. So we’ll just have to wait and see what happens.”

Detroit Pistons veteran guard Lindsey Hunter?is 37 years old and has just completed his fifteenth season in the Association. He has played more basketball than many people have watched, so when he gives an opinion, it probably means something. The Detroit Free Press reported on Sunday that Hunter believes that rookie teammate Rodney Stuckey is on the verge of becoming a star in the NBA.?Stuckey had performed beyond Detroit’s expectations during the exhibition season, and they thought he would be an impact player in his rookie year.? But just before the regular season the rookie broke his left hand during an exhibition game against the Washington Wizards.?Stuckey underwent surgery and missed the first part of the season recuperating. Despite the time missed Stuckey showed enough to the veteran, that Hunter is predicting the young man to be a force to be reckoned with in foreseeable future. Hunter told reporters “The sky is the limit for that kid! Once he gets his feet planted fully, there’s not many people who can do what this kid can do. He has such incredible upside. Physically, you look at Deron Williams and those types of guys, and he possesses some things that those guys don’t possess.” Stuckey came through as a potent weapon for Detroit during the playoffs.? He is expected to see increased minutes next year.

The Associated Press reported that Detroit Pistons assistant coach Terry Porter will interview with Phoenix Suns General Manager Steve Kerr?later this week.? Phoenix is still trying to fill their head coaching position, as former coach Mike D’Antoni is now head coach for the New York Knicks Kerr and Porter were teammates with the San Antonio Spurs. Porter had an earlier head coaching stint with the Milwaukee Bucks. Porter had a record of 71-92 in two seasons from 2003-2005. Detroit was eliminated from the NBA Playoffs Friday as the Boston Celtics defeated them in the Eastern Conference Finals.

Well I guess in the case of?former NBA?coach?Doug Collins,”no news is no news”! The Associated Press, reported Saturday that despite reports earlier in the week, that Collins would soon be returning as bench boss, he is no closer to signing a Bulls contract for?next season. Collins started his head coaching position with Chicago.??According to the reports neither Collins or Bulls General Manager John Paxson returned messages or have commented on the matter. Collins was the?television analyst? for TNT during the Lakers Spurs series, since the series ended with L.A. winning speculation was that an announcement would be forthcoming. This would be Collins second stint with Chicago having coached them back in the 1980’s.

?????????????????????????????????????????????Indiana Pacers

Yesterday I covered the New Jersey Nets’ draft needs and who I projected them to select with their first-round pick.? Today, I will cover the Indiana Pacers, their draft needs and who I predict they will select with their first-round pick.

Indiana Pacers

Draft Position - #11

Needs - Point guard, power forward.? Jamaal Tinsley’s days as a Pacer are numbered, hence the need for a PG.? Up in the air as well is the fact that Jermaine O’Neal may not return to Indiana, either.? The Pacers have 2 needs yet can really only address one through the draft.? The Pacers’ current roster, as it stands, needs the point guard a little more than frontcourt help - which I expect them to address?either through free agency or late in the draft.

Indiana Pacers select: D.J. Augustin, PG, Texas

Tomorrow: Sacramento Kings
