The Associated Press reported Tuesday that Cleveland Cavaliers guard Daniel Gibson had surgery on Tuesday in Houston to repair his left ankle. The operation was an arthroscopic procedure, and the guard going into his third season in the Association is expected to be ready at the start of training camp. Gibson first injured his ankle on February 20, in a contest against the Indiana Pacers. He subsequently missed the next 18 games for Cleveland. Gibson will be a restricted free agent this Summer, meaning the Cavaliers can match any offer. Gibson in his rookie season had played his way into the starting lineup mid-way through the regular season. He had his greatest success in the 2007 Eastern Conference Finals, as he had a very big series. Gibson took a step backwards in his second campaign in the league, as he fell out of the starting rotation. Gibson’s season came to an end when he suffered a separated shoulder in the Eastern Conference Semi-Finals.

???????????????????????????????????? Denver Nuggets

Yesterday I covered the Cleveland Cavaliers’ draft needs and also projected who they would select with their first-round pick.? Today, I cover the Denver Nuggets’ draft needs and will also predict who they will select with their first-round pick.

Denver Nuggets

Draft Position - #20

Needs - Small forward, shooting guard.? The Nuggets stand the very real possibility of losing starting small forward Carmelo Anthony via trade; that aside, their only true backup is Eduardo Najera - who is a bench player, at best.? They are also rather thin at shooting guard.

Denver Nuggets select:?Chris Douglas Roberts, SG/SF, Memphis

Tomorrow: New Jersey Nets

??????????????????????????

Michael Curry will be introduced as the Detroit Pistons coach on Tuesday at a news conference, reports Larry Lage of the Associated Press; Curry replaces Flip Saunders, who was fired by the team last week.? Curry agreed to a 3-year, $7.5 million contract, with the Pistons holding the option for a fourth year; Curry was an assistant coach under Saunders last season.

??????????????????????????????????????????????? Washington Wizards point guard Gilbert Arenas

Washington Wizards point guard Gilbert Arenas, according to ESPN, did what had been expected from him - he opted out of the final year of his current contract.? Arenas had said on more than one occasion that he would forgo the final year of his 6-year, $65 million contract; because he did opt out, he can negotiate with any NBA team, effective July 1.? However, Arenas - while expressing a desire to stay with the Wizards - has also said that he wouldn’t return unless the team also re-signs Antawn Jamison.? Wizards?president Ernie Grunfeld has publicly stated that he hopes to retain both Arenas and Jamison.? Arenas, in 7 years in the league, has averaged 22.8 PPG, 4.2 RPG and 5.5 APG.?
