Horry Wants To Come Back For One More Year
Posted by Jeff Sack under NBA Free Agents
Oh, to live on sugar mountain
With the barkers and the colored balloons,
You can’t be twenty on sugar mountain
Though you,re thinking that you’re leaving there too soon,
You’re leaving there too soon.
Sugar Mountain Neil Young
When is it time to leave the Fair? A year too early, or a year too soon? That is an answer that differs from professional athlete to professional athlete. We think of John Elway leaving at the height of his game right after winning the Super Bowl with the Broncos. Or go back a generation, as Bill Russell left the Boston Celtics at his apex after winning back to back NBA Titles. But the opposite happens as well, Willie Mays playing at the end of his career with the New York Mets, a shadow of his former self. Anfernee Hardaway, and Allan Houston both tried coming back from retirement last season, but? were not successful. Yet PJ Brown came out of retirement to play for the Celtics, and made key contributions on their path to the NBA Championship.
The “Associated Press” is reporting that veteran forward Robert Horry is not ready to fade off into the sunset quite yet. Horry told reporters?that he would like one more ride on the Association Merry Go Round, and wants to come back for season number 17. The veteran said that he would like to play for either the San Antonio Spurs who he has played for for the last five campaigns. If not there his next choice would be his first NBA team, the Houston Rockets, where he played his first four seasons. Horry who will turn 38 years old this August, has won seven NBA Championships, with three different teams. The Houston Rockets in the early part of his career, the Los Angeles Lakers in his middle years, and the San Antonio Spurs where he won his seventh title last year.? The veteran now holds the record for most NBA Playoff games played. He eclipsed former Lakers center Kareem Abdul-Jabbar?s mark this season as he now has 244, to Kareem?s 237.
