Williams, Jazz Agree To Extension
Posted by Stephen Rhodes under Main
The leader of the Utah Jazz will remain in Salt Lake City for a while longer as SportsTicker reports that Deron Williams and the team have agreed in principle on a three-year extension on his current contract; terms of the contract were not disclosed but according to the Salt Lake Tribune, Williams will be paid “the maximum allowed by the NBA?s collective bargaining agreement.”? The Jazz will hold a news conference at 4:00 PM (ET) Friday to announce the agreement.
The paper also stated that Williams wouldn’t have the exact value of his extension determined until the NBA salary cap is set next July; however, the Tribune says that Williams is set to make approximately $50 million over the first 3 years and up to $70 million should he exercise the option for the fourth year.? Prior to the deal, Williams had been worried about the Jazz’ future as three of his teammates - Carlos Boozer, Kyle Korver and Mehmet Okur - are able to opt out of their contracts and become free agents next summer.
