The “Associated Press” reported Tuesday that the Golden State Warriors have acquired point guard Marcus Williams from the New Jersey Nets for a conditional first round pick. Williams who was drafted by New Jersey in the 2006 NBA Draft is expected to be the backup to Monta Ellis. Ellis will be elevated to starting point, after the Warriors lost free agent Baron Davis to the Los Angeles Clippers earlier this month. Williams, a former UConn Huskie was a member of the 2007 NBA All-Rookie second team. Golden State General Manager Chris Mullins was excited with the options this will give his team in the back-court next season. Mullins said “We felt that we needed to acquire another point guard and a player who is capable of running our offense and expanding our depth. We feel that Marcus can contribute to our cause next season.”
