Ferry Gets LBJ A Point Guard Cavaliers Trade For Mo Williams

If you are a regular reader of mine, you know all too well how I have have campaigned for Cleveland Cavaliers General Manager Danny Ferry to acquire a quality point guard. As much as the Cavaliers have improved during his tenure as G.M. I have always felt that the team needed that quarterback on the floor to run the offense. “ESPN.com” NBA beat writer Chris Broussard is reporting that Cleveland has acquired point guard Mo Williams in a three way trade with the Milwaukee Bucks and “The Team Formerly Known As The Seattle SuperSonics“.

The trade which we told you was being discussed on Monday Reports Out Of Cleveland Are That Cavaliers Have Interest In Bucks Williams have Cleveland sending guard Damon Jones to Milwaukee, and veteran forward Joe Smith will go to the team now located in Oklahoma City. The Bucks will receive guard Luke Ridnour, and forward Adrian Griffin from OKC, Oklahoma City will also get forward Desmond Mason in the swap.

Williams was a second round pick by the Utah Jazz in the 2003 NBA Draft. He has been with the Bucks since the 2004-2005 campaign. He averaged 17.2 points, 6.3 assists, and 3.5 rebounds in 66 games (all starts) this past season. This is a big step in the right direction for Cleveland. According to my sources from Cleveland, the Cavaliers want to retain restricted free agent guard Delonte West. Danny get Delonte signed, and you will not here any complaints from this corner for quite a while!

Sixers Sign Iguodala To Six Year Deal

This past season, the Philadelphia 76ers surprised a lot of NBA observers by giving the Detroit Pistons a challenge in their first round NBA Eastern Conference Playoff series. On Tuesday according to “ESPN.com” the Sixers put their final piece in place to make?them legitimate contenders?to challenge NBA Champions the Boston Celtics as one of the elite teams in the Eastern Conference.

“ESPN.com” is reporting that Philadelphia has come to terms with restricted free agent forward Andre Iguodala, on a deal that is said to be for 6 years worth $80 million.? Iguodala who completed his fourth season in the Association along with veteran guard?Andre?Miller were the core of the Sixers team that did far better than expected. Last month Philadelphia signed free agent power forward Elton Brand, who is expected to help the team reach the next level. Iguodala, averaged 19.9 points, 5.4 rebounds, 4.8 assists, last season for Philadelphia.

Spanoulis Sparks Greece Topple Germany 87-64

Vassilis Spanoulis led all scorers with 23 points, as the Greek guard led his team over the German National team 87-64 Tuesday. The two teams played a tight first quarter, but Greece outscored Germany 46-27, in the second and third quarters to make the game an easy victory.

Germany who fell to 1-1 in Olympic competition with the loss got limited production from Dirk Nowitzki, who scored 13 points in the game. But perhaps?the biggest disappointment for Germany was Chris Kaman who scored just 4 points in the loss. Greece now 2-0 will next face Team USA, while Germany will match up against Spain.

Spain Beats China In Overtime 85-75

Tuesday was not an easy victory for the Spanish National team, as China took them to overtime before finally succumbing 85-75. Spain had to rally from a first half deficit, and China still led the game after three quarters. But Spain’s offense came alive in the fourth quarter to tie the contest, and then dominated in the overtime period.

The two teams kept the game close in the first quarter, as Spain had a razor thin lead of 20-18 at the end of the period. China’s defense coupled with a strong offensive second quarter, gave them a 46-37 lead as the two teams went to their respective locker rooms at the half. Spain could only muster 10 points in the third quarter, and the Chinese increased their lead heading into the final period to 61-47. Marc Gasol tied the game for Spain with 19.7?seconds left in regulation, as the two opponents were deadlocked?at 72-72. In the overtime period Yao Ming fouled out of the game, and Pau Gasol took over the game offensively.

Pau Gasol led all scorers with 29 points, his teammate Rudy Fernandez? scored 21 in the victory. China was led by Liu Wei who scored 19 points, Yao had 11 points, 9 rebounds in the loss. Spain takes on Germany in the next round while China will play Angola.
