Team USA Burns Greece 92-69 Now 3-0 In Olympics
Filed Under Slam Dunk Olympics Central | Leave a Comment
It was a feeling that had been stuck in their craws since 2006. Every time Team USA took the court there was that sickening feeling in the pits of their stomachs when they thought back on the 2006 World Championships, and how the National team for Greece had handed their lunch to them. That is?one of the reasons that Team USA has been nicknamed the “Redeem Team”?because of that loss in Japan as they fell to the Greeks 101-95.
There is a very good probability that Team USA goes on to the win the Gold Medal at the 2008 Beijing Olympics. But?as far as they get, there will be no victory that will be sweeter than the one that they earned on Thursday. Team USA held Greece to just 41.3% (26-63) shooting from the floor?as they won in a rather lopsided victory 92-69. The American are now 3-0 so far in the Olympic games.
Kobe Bryant and Chris Bosh each led the United States team with 18 points apiece. Team USA shot 53.7% (36-67) from the floor for the game. The first quarter was competitively played with the Americans ahead 20-16 at the end of the period. But then there was an offensive explosion for Team USA as they had a very healthy 51-32 lead at the half. Greece played well again in the second half but never recovered from the second quarter,
Bryant along with his 18 points, had 4 rebounds, 2 assists, 1 block. Chris Bosh came off the bench to score his 18 points, 5 rebounds, 2 blocks, 2 steals in the victory. Dwyane Wade who has proven that he is all the way back from last season’s injuries had another great game, 17 points, 6 steals, 5 assists, 3 rebounds. LeBron James scored 13 points, 6 assists, 6 rebounds, 3 blocks, 2 steals.
Theo Papaloukas led the team from Greece with 15 points, 8 rebounds, 2 assists, 1 steal. Vassilis Spanoulis scored 14 points, 4 rebounds, 2 assists, 1 steal. Team USA will play Spain on Saturday.
