This was not what you would call an offensive masterpiece! When the winning team shoots 32.8% (20-61) from the floor for the game you realize there was not a whole lot of scoring going on! But it was just enough for host team China to defeat Germany 59-55 Saturday. The victory now puts China at 2-2 in the 2008 Beijing Olympics. To say the game started out slowly would be a severe understatement, as China held a 19-9? lead at the conclusion of the first quarter. As weak as the German offense was in the first quarter, the Chinese offense was worse in the second quarter, as Germany led at the half 31-27. Then in the third quarter, Germany again slept walked through the period as China took back the lead 47-39. Germany took back the advantage in the final period, but it was too little too late, and the hosts ended up with the win. Yao Ming recorded a double-double for China, scoring 25 points, 11 rebounds, 2 assists, 1 block. He was the only player on his team in double figures. Dirk Nowitzki also registered a double-double as he scored 24 points, and grabbed 17 boards Pascal Roller scored 13 points, off the bench, 4 rebounds, 2 steals. Chris Kaman also recorded a double-double for the German team as he scored 10 points, 12 rebounds, 1 block in the loss. Germany who will take on undefeated Team USA on Monday is now 1-3.
