Celtics Sign D-Miles To Non-Guaranteed Contract

The “Boston Globe” reported Friday that the NBA Champion Boston Celtics have signed free agent veteran forward Darius Miles to a non-guaranteed contract. Miles was waived back in April by the Portland Trail Blazers after a physician determined he was no longer physically able to play. Miles had not played a game for the last two seasons after undergoing micro-fracture surgery on his right knee. Miles contract came off the Trail Blazers salary cap, however if he plays 10 games in this season the Blazers then would be have his contract back on their books.

Boston General Manager Danny Ainge says he has been impressed with what he has seen from the veteran in workout sessions for the team. Ainge told reporters “He’s coming to training camp and he’s going to try to prove that he can make the team. He has come in for a couple of workouts. He’ll try to make the team somehow. He’s healthy. He has a great attitude. He’s ready to resume his career.”

Miles was the third selection in the 2000 NBA Draft by the Los Angeles Clippers coming directly out of high school. Although quite raw he was extremely athletic, and became a fan favorite during his time with the Clippers. Miles was traded to the Cleveland Cavaliers in 2002, he came into camp out of shape and first developed the knee problems that would lead to the surgery. This is a no risk situation for the “Green Team“, if Miles is healthy and has matured he could prove to be a nice addition as Boston tries defending it’s title.
